The Institute of Deep Space Science and Technology of the University of Science and Technology of China was founded on February 23, 2022. Relying on the National Key Laboratory of Deep Space Exploration, it focuses on conducting scientific and cutting-edge technological research in deep space exploration and provides counterpart support for the construction and development of the Deep Space Exploration Laboratory.

The institute has a first-level interdisciplinary subject of planetary science and exploration technology. Taking advantage of the world-leading research in science, engineering, and medicine of the University of Science and Technology of China, it aims to cultivate highly compound and internationally recognized deep space exploration professionals with strong research backgrounds and innovation abilities.
